You’ve seen the seasoned pro’s taking their boards to the surf breaks and gliding effortlessly over the swells, and you want in. They make it look so easy as they paddle into glassy waves with long, strong strokes and perform tight cutbacks and turns on the wave. With a little time and effort, you can join them. You just need to learn to surf.
Thankfully, we know right where you should begin.
It’s challenging to learn to surf.
Mastering the sport can take years. It’s important for you to set realistic expectations when you first get started. If you think you’re going to be performing backside 360’s and carving up massive waves within your first month, you’re going to become discouraged. It would be sad to potentially burn out on an amazing hobby before you even really get started.
But there’s good news.
Surfing is FUN at every stage of the game, no matter how long it takes you to level up.
We know you want to be up on your board doing advanced maneuvers as soon as you can, but make sure you set some small goals to keep yourself stoked as you continue your progression. The first time you stand up, the first time you turn your board, the first time you ride along the green, unbroken face of the wave – these experiences are incredible and they’ll give you a feeling you won’t soon forget.
We hope that feeling of yours will grow into a passion for the sport that many of us in the surfing community share.
The most important thing to remember is that it’s supposed to be FUN. No one is out there catching waves to look cool.
OK, they’re not doing it JUST to look cool.
