After teaching thousands of people to surf over the years, we’ve compiled a list of common questions students often ask about our lessons. Hopefully this page gives you some clarity and confidence about booking a lesson with Green Wave. Where do we meet for the surf lessons?
All of our surf lessons meet in the main carpark at Ngarunui Beach. You will see our surf truck parked right next to the changing blocks. You can view our exact location here.
How do I pay?
Payment for group surf lessons and packages can be made online. We can also reserve your space via email/phone. If paying on the day of your lesson, we accept cash or card at the surf truck. Please note there is a small surcharge for foreign and/or credit card transactions.
I’ve never surfed before. Can I join a group lesson?
Of course! Our group surf lessons always have a mix of beginner and progressive surfers. If you’re new to surfing we will spend some extra time on the beach going over basic surfing theory and safety. Once in the water, the instructors will be there to help you get tons of waves!
What is your cancellation policy?
Bookings cancelled up to 48 hours before the lesson time will receive a 50% refund. Bookings cancelled within 48 hours of the lesson will not be refunded.
I’m not a very confident swimmer. Can I still join a lesson with Green Wave?
Although swimming skills are advisable for anyone who wants to pursue surfing long-term, they are not necessary for our surf lessons. Our beginner lessons take place at a sand bottom beach in waist-chest deep water. Our instructors will also be there to help you catch waves and keep you safe.
Do you offer surfboard/wetsuit rentals?
Absolutely! If you already have some experience and want to practice your skills, we offer half-day surfboard + wetsuit rentals for $45.
Do you provide pick-up/drop-off for the surf lessons?
Yes! If you do not have access to a vehicle, we can pick up anywhere in Raglan for daily surf lessons. If staying near Raglan town, our usual pick-up / drop-off spot is here next to the fire station
Does Green Wave ever take students out to the point breaks?
Although the famous Raglan point breaks can look inviting from a distance, sharp rocks and crowds make these spots very dangerous for teaching surf lessons. As a result, we never take students out to the points.
School Groups
School Group lessons are available to book any time of the year. Single and Multi-day programs available. We can host any number of students and help arrange accommodation if necessary. For group accommodation we recommend Raglan Holiday Park. Please enquire for more details and pricing info.
Surf Packages
If you’re serious about becoming a surfer, our surf packages will get you there. From learning to stand to gliding along green waves, our team of experienced instructors will be there every step of the way. We keep groups small and stoke high!
Daily Surf Lessons
Whether you’ve never set foot in the ocean or want to take your skills to the next level, group lessons are a great way enjoy surfing in a fun, safe environment. We guarantee to get you standing and catching waves in no time!
